Question 31

IN JOHN 4:22, JESUS SAID, "SALVATION IS OF THE JEWS". THEN WHERE DO WE STAND?

Yes, it is true. Salvation is of the Jews. He did not say salvation is for the Jews. There is a big difference in the meanings of the two propositions-of and for.

"Of the Jews", means, it springs from them. They were the instruments through which God would bring the message of salvation.

And Jesus, as far as His human life was concerned, was a Jew.

So salvation comes from the Jewish nation.

The literal Jews failed in their responsibilities. Instead of sharing the light of truth, they were hiding it under a bushel. Now the church of God has the charge to spread the message of salvation to the whole world. Jesus told His disciples, and all His followers:

Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)

The church is the true Israel. And the true circumcision is of the heart and not the flesh. Listen to Paul:

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. (Romans 2:28, 29)

Therefore, salvation is truly of the Jews and not just for the Jews. Now it is coming from the Jews-the spiritual Jews-called the church, and not just for them!
