Is it fair for God to let animals die for no fault of theirs?

QUESTION 13

IS IT FAIR FOR GOD TO LET ANIMALS DIE FOR NO FAULT OF THEIRS?

Man was the crowning act of God's creation. In fact, his Creator gave the earth to man.

The earth hath he given to the children of men. (Psalm 115:16)

He was to possess it forever as his own, as a faithful steward of God. They were given dominion over all other creatures.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:28)

The key of governance of planet earth was given to Adam. As long as he was loyal to God, it would be his forever. Our first parents were to pass only a small test. When they failed the test they sold the dominion to the enemy of God, the devil. You will notice this truth in the statement made by Satan himself to our blessed

Lord in the temptation scene:

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. (Luke 4:5, 6)

Adam passed on the dominion to the devil. All the protection that covered the whole planet was gone. Death invaded this planet because of sin. Sin is a deadly virus that kills. It contaminates the entire place. Death passed upon all-man, animals, plants- because Satan became:

The prince of this world. (John 14:30)

God is life. Sin separates one from God (See Isaiah 59:2).

When the earth is cut off from the Source of life, death reigns. But:

God so loved the world. (John 3:16)

God had a restoration plan ready. Before that Satan had to be given time to demonstrate all the lofty claims he made about his governance. By and by, it was all seen, by the beholding universe, that Satan was a liar, a murderer from the beginning. His mask was torn apart by the passing of time. Jesus told the Jews who were planning to kill Him:

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no

truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)

At Calvary, when the Son of God hung between earth and

Heaven, with a broken body and in a pool of blood, it was absolutely clear to the entire universe as to who really the devil was, and what amazing love God has for a rebellious world! Talking about this same scene, Jesus said:

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. (John 12:31)

The devil was judged by all-a liar and a murderer he is. His lies were seen in the religious men, through whom he plotted the murder of the Son of God. There, on the Cross, Jesus earned the right and got back the dominion which our first parents forfeited to the devil.

The restoration of the first dominion was prophesied by Micah the prophet:

And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of

Jerusalem. (Micah 4:8)

On a tree at the Garden of Eden it was sold away and on

Calvary's tree it was purchased back! Death crept in at the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And at the tree, that was despised and rugged, where the Son of God gave up His life, death got one final blow. This is our tree of life. By partaking of His divine nature we can once again live forever.

Through the fall of Adam, Satan got a grip of the entire planet, and death reigned on all.

By one man's offence death reigned by one. (Romans 5:17)

He was the strong one, having firm grasp over all his possessions.

But Jesus, the Lord of Heaven, was stronger, who would overpower the strong devil and destroy his armory. The earth became Satan's palace and Jesus testified to it.

When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. (Luke 11: 21, 22)

And Peter wrote:

Of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. (2 Peter 2:19)

This earth was brought to bondage of the devil because of

Adam's sin, and it will be set at liberty, in all its totality, at the Second Coming of Jesus, by the virtue of Jesus' sacrifice. Paul wrote:

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. (Romans 8:21, 22)

Because of man's sin, death came on the entire creation, as he was someone important-the ruler of this planet. He passed the baton to the devil in whose bosom is only death. But thank God for, "the last Adam", Jesus Christ the Son of God (1Corinthians 15:45).

Our Lord Jesus Christ has reversed the deadly process to give us life and an everlasting inheritance. Because of Jesus, very soon there will be life and peace all over again, with no death at all. The prophet of old penned what he saw in vision:

The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 65:25)

So it is not just the innocent animals that suffer now for no fault of theirs; the innocent plants too, and the earth in its totality are suffering. Most of all God, the most innocent One, is suffering the most for no fault of His. His suffering has been going on ever since sin crept in. Sin affects all!

For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. (Romans 14:7)
